Cork ARC offer a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction or MBSR programme for those living with metastatic cancer or with a long-term illness related to cancer or its treatment. Our facilitator Deborah O'Neill Fearon has adapted the regular MBSR programme specifically to support people living with any type of metastatic cancer, helping to provide those with the kind of support needed while dealing with treatment, fatigue and pain.

Cork ARC are the first organisation in Ireland to publish on MBSR interventions on the metastatic cancer patient group, and as we adapted the MBSR curriculum specifically for this group of patients, we are the only organisation in Ireland delivering this programme. 


History of MBSR

Since 1979, a growing consensus has emerged among health care providers that mindfulness is a powerful, effective method for reducing physical and psychological suffering while building our capacity for greater health, balance, ease, and peace of mind. 


How can mindfulness help?

  • Become more aware, and balanced in the ordinary experiences of everyday life.

  • Learn skills that help cope with the stresses and uncertainties of living with cancer.

  • Learn skills to respond rather than react to stress and difficulty.

  • Work gently to promote kindness towards yourself and others.

Taking place throughout the year, the programme offers our visitors a chance to learn a range of mindfulness practices that can be used in daily life to reduce stress and enhance wellbeing. In addition to this programme, we facilitate an ongoing monthly MBSR group re-meet, where we offer a space for past programme attendees to continue to utilise mindfulness practices and to reconnect with our service at Cork ARC.
