Cork ARC Cancer Support House is open near Bantry to serve the communities of West Cork and South Kerry.
For many years patients and relatives in West Cork have been travelling to Cork for our services and having Cork ARC Cancer Support in Bantry will take away this long journey. Living in West Cork brings specific challenges for cancer patients, rural isolation, large distances and issues of transportation being important ones. Cancer Connect provides support by transporting people from West Cork to and from our services in Cork. We are grateful that they will do so for Cork ARC in Bantry as well.
Our centre, located near Bantry Golf Course, is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10.00am and 4.00pm where we offer you a space to feel at ease and warmly welcomed. The drop in centre is the focus of the house. Visitors may drop in without an appointment and will be met by one of our trained volunteer listeners in a relaxed atmosphere.
We offer complementary therapies including counselling, therapeutic massage, reflexology, and art therapy by appointment. Art therapy can support those who may be struggling with challenging situations that they find hard to talk about. You don’t need to have previous experience in art to benefit from and enjoy art therapy.
You are welcome to join us, whenever you can, for an "Hour of Calm" every Tuesday from 11.00am. This is a drop-in group session led by experienced facilitators, offering techniques of progressive relaxation, breath work, meditation, visualisation and mindfulness which invite you into a space of peace, rest and calm.
We also offer pilates, yoga and mindfulness as well as information evenings on topics such as diet in cancer and bereavement. Visit our Services Calendar for our full schedule.
The Cork ARC service in West Cork is assisted by Bantry Hospice and we would like to thank them for their contribution and look forward to working closely with them into the future. We are also very grateful to the people of West Cork, whether based at home or away, for their continued generosity in helping Cork ARC's West Cork service continue to provide such an invaluable support.
If you would like to contribute to our work in any way, you are very welcome to do so, and know that all funds donated will directly benefit the services of the Cork ARC Cancer Support House in West Cork.
