We were delighted to have Sean Og O'hAilpin and the staff of Ulster Bank on board to launch our Annual Flag Day in 2011.  Pictured here with the now familiar bucket!  A huge thank you to our 500 volunteers who helped with the collection throughout the City and County and to the people of Cork for their great support!

Movement of the Heart and Soul - Exhibition by June Fitzgerald

Art Therapist June Fitzgerald very kindly exhibited her wonderful work in an exhibition in aid of Cork ARC at the Cork Institute of Technology.  Opening Night was attended by over 150 people.  Una Coakley launched the exhibition and praised June's work as being authentic, not just of the soul but of the heart , saying "the heart referred to here is not the sentimental, tidy heart of the Valentine card or the chocolate box.....  It is, rather, of the complicated heart that undertakes the process to look inward and be honest".

The 'C' Team run for ARC

Our thanks to John Quigley and the 'C' Team of Cancer Survivors who ran the Cork City Marathon, living up to their motto 'getting on with life'.

Ann Spillane very kindly organised a lovely event to mark the Christmas season.  A candlelight walk was held in Cork City to remember those who are affected by cancer - the many survivors, those who are on treatment, those who have died and the many who give them such great support.  Over 500 people walked through the streets with lighted candles the procession ended on Grand parade with a choral recital from The St. Johns Gospel Choir and the Rhythm of Life Multicultural Choir.

Visit of President Mary McAleese to Cork ARC

2010 was a truly memorable year for Cork ARC Cancer Support House.  President Mary McAleese visited the house to pay tribute to the work of our wonderful volunteers.  In her speech honoring volunteers and how they support people with cancer and their families she said:

“When someone receives a diagnosis, a doctor or nurse will say I know you are feeling very lonely right now but here is a place you can go to.  You are going to meet with strangers there but very quickly they will become your friends, they will become your support.  They will help you, they will help your family and the journey you feel now is so terrifying, hard though it may be, with their help will be a much less fearful journey”.
