After a most incredible barefoot trek through West Cork, Michael Minehane's 100 Mile Barefoot Walk has finished at Leap due to an ankle injury.
Despite this, Michael passed the half way point, reached Leap, and raised over €1,300 for Cork ARC's service in Bantry. We're so thankful to Michael for his phenomenal effort. We think you'll all agree with us in sending him your well wishes as he recovers from his injury. Here are a few words of thanks from Michael:
“It is with regret that I am reporting that I am unable to finish the 100 mile barefoot walk due to an ankle injury. This is not the news I want to report. My feet, toes, etc. have survived the past two days and remain in reasonable shape. Unfortunately, I finished on Wednesday evening with a swollen left ankle; the ankle was strapped on Thursday morning to carry on with the walk and 57 miles have been completed. The swelling was worse this morning (Friday), to the point where I am struggling to move.
For these type of events, you train to ensure you can finish but injury is always a risk, a risk which has materialised this time.
Both of my parents, Christy and Patricia, who are no longer with us, used the services at Cork ARC in Bantry. This is the reason why we wanted to do the walk, to raise the profile of Cork ARC and their services and give something small back.
I want to thank my family, Bernie, all the staff at Cork ARC, the folk who stopped me on the road and provided some support and donations (or just wanted to know what I was doing barefoot!), Paudie O’Donovan for patching me up on Thursday morning, Ciaran O’Sullivan for his help and support, Ainle O’Caireallain (ACLAÍ - Strength and Movement) for help and advice, Neil & Katy and staff at Gougane Barra Hotel, the journalists and photographers who covered the event, and all the people who have made donations.
Thank you, much appreciated”
